Sometimes the gate itself is fine – it's the way you open it that's gone wrong. Remotes stop working, receivers fail, keypads get water in them and intercoms lose their picture or sound. I sort all of it.

Remote problems are among the most common calls we get. Flat batteries, lost pairing, worn buttons and radio interference can all stop a remote working, and some faults turn out to be in the gate's receiver or aerial rather than in the handset you're holding.

We can repair, replace and re-pair remotes for all the major brands, and set up new ones so every member of the household has a working handset. If a remote has been lost or stolen, we can also delete it from the system so it can't open your gate.

Intercom faults range from no sound or no picture to a handset that rings but won't open the gate. Damaged cables, water in the outdoor panel and failing power supplies are frequent causes, especially on long driveways where the cable run is exposed.

We trace the fault, repair or replace the parts that need it and make sure the intercom and the gate work together properly again before we leave. If an older intercom isn't worth repairing, we'll talk you through modern alternatives and their prices.

Receiver problems

The receiver is the part that listens for your remote's signal – either built into the control board or a separate plug-in or external unit. If no remotes work, the receiver may have failed, lost its memory, or have a damaged aerial.

Keypad problems

• keys not responding, often after water gets in
• forgotten codes
• wireless keypads with flat batteries or lost pairing

Intercom problems

• no picture, or a poor picture
• no sound, or a buzzing line
• the gate doesn't open from the handset or app
• the app has stopped connecting

Repair or replace?

Remotes and keypads are usually replaced rather than repaired. Receivers and intercoms can sometimes be repaired; often an upgrade gives you better security and features for not much more. I'll give you the options and a price.
